i downloaded the latest version of "swiftfox". it' s an optimized version of firefox that runs really quickly. pages render faster and overall it's performance is twice as fast. regular firefox 3 will be based off it's source.
"Swiftfox is an optimized build of Mozilla Firefox for Linux. It is compiled for AMD processors including Athlon XP, Athlon 64, Duron and Sempron."
Oh well.
Also, mother of God do I fucking hate digg.

This is exactly why people hate linux zealots.
anyways firefox 3 will be based off it and they are going to ditch the buggy original branch. firefox 3 will have a windows branch so you wont be missing out on it when it comes out. if it was OSS I could have compiled a windows version.
ok..?.. so.. what u guys r sayin is, its not for windows..?..
also the source code is not being altered (just flags changed), it's been compiled to be optimized for particular CPUs so you can get more out of each cycle. like x86_64, i686, etc. XP is compiled under i386, so I doubt that you would even notice much difference.
well if people are bitchy over the license. there is always "swiftweasel", it's open source. maybe i can compile it myself and see if it's faster than swiftfox.
also linux zealots are crazy over FOSS stuff because it's what separates them from Mac and Microsoft. this is like people selling copies of openoffice. linux would have never been as far as it is today without FOSS and people realized that it's something worth fighting over to protect. sounds corny but the FOSS business model is starting to make big business shit themselves and this is the only weapon they got to get hardware vendors to take to OS seriously.
we have a wiener, swiftweasel is noticeably faster than swiftfox.
That's true and I support open source, but most of the people were flat out wrong. Firefox is multilicensed, not just GPL but MPL which allows closed source branches. And he even published exactly what he did to the source as a patch to firefox anyway. It's not like he's hiding the code, just not allowing mods to that specific branch. Not a big deal at all IMO.
Also, I'm running on a different computer now anyway and I may well install ubuntu later, I just play too many games to use linux as a main OS.
And FWIW I haven't had any problems with firefox on here yet, except for shit with greasemonkey scripts not properly installing.
most steam games work really well on WINE and Cedega (free, as in torrent

)
i got ubuntu working 100% on my laptop with almost zero configuration. also nvidia drivers are easier to install than on windows. i get about 20 fps increase on games on WINE that work.
